Hot

I've been too hot to do anything but swim. My house is currently 82 degrees and it is 9:30 pm. We've been roasting and I am cursing the people who assured me that you really don't need air conditioning in Colorado Springs. They were wrong. Or at least they weren't packing around 20 extra pounds. The redeeming factor in all of the sweatiness is that our house does cool down by 3-4 in the morning. But paranoid me can't leave windows open all night long. The last few nights we left several windows open because I decided I'd rather be robbed than be hot another second.

We had tacos for dinner and the cheese melted by the end of the dinner. Right now I am eating chocolate chips from the pantry, which also are melted. Our bananas don't last more than a few days. Are you feeling sorry for me yet? Even Charlie lays sprawled out on our wood floor, panting. Hot. We are getting good at being out of the house from 2-5, though 5-10 at night is equally as miserable. I don't cook or bake anymore, which has been good for my pregnant physique--I've only gained 4 pounds in the last 2 months. My children eat a lot of Cheerios and ice cream. Andrew told me today, "Mom, I'm ready for winter because I'm tired of playing with the basement toys." Don't feel sorry for him because we swim almost every day and do lots of fun activities that involve air conditioning. Save your sympathy for me.

Father's Day

We had a pie eating contest for Father's Day at the Egberts along with ham, potatoes, rolls and beans. Yummy. We did the pie contest first and Jeff killed Hans. He can put it down. He felt sick most of the night but still had a huge piece of Michelle's ice cream cake after dinner. The kids also gave him Reeses candy bars, which he dutifully ate. Jeff is a great dad and I am lucky to have him. He really enjoys playing with the kids and we all love him for it.

Orange Belt

Andrew passed his belt test and is now an orange belt. He did a great job and broke the board easily. He loves that part. He has to pass off quite a few skills and he remembered all of them. Andrew has really enjoyed Tae Kwon Do and is a lot more flexible thanks to the regular stretching. We have to pull him out of Tae Kwon Do after Orange belt because they have to be in the "Black Belt Club" to continue. Andrew was invited but mom and dad are unwilling to fork over the funds. It is an astonishingly large amount of money. Andrew, luckily is very understanding--he keeps asking me when we will have more money. A good question. Jeff says maybe when he turns eight we will be able to afford it. After the mountain bike and dutch oven Jeff has been coveting, perhaps.

Elizabeth's Birthday Party

Elizabeth turns 5 on June 22nd, but since we will be in Utah, we had a birthday party for her on Friday. She invited her cousins and two friends from church. She had a butterfly party with a butterfly cake and lots of butterfly crafts. The kids did crafts for an hour. I was impressed. Elizabeth has amazing stamina for crafts and spends most of her day coloring, gluing, etc. She had fun making her cake and helped pick out the candy and decorate it. By 8 am she had eaten cake batter, frosting, and quite a bit of candy. We had the adults come after the party for a barbeque. I am not prepared for her to be five. It sounds too old. I suppose I still have 5 days to enjoy her as a four year old. Elizabeth asked me yesterday why Anna follows her around so much, and before I could say anything Anna said, "Because I love you." We sure love her!
