We have had a crazy couple of weeks. I don't even know where to begin. Anna turned 3 on Friday and we went swimming and had pizza and cake. She had a fun day. She got to sit on the middle barstool all day, which is the fought over spot. She got a card from Grandma Donna with 3 dollars in it, clothes from Grandma Conley and Grandma Roylance and a Playmobil house from Grandma Heath. Michelle and her girls also spoiled Anna with new Dora shoes, Dora dishes, and a baby that plays music. Lucky girl. She came galloping into our bedroom at 6:10 am singing, "It's really, really, really my birthday!" At breakfast she had candles in her pancakes and then threw a tantrum because she still has one more year to go until she gets a whole vitamin--we still have to cut hers in half. She is so cute and we love her. I will post pictures later.
We also went to the dentist this week and Elizabeth screamed like they were trying to kill her. It took two of us to pin her in the x-ray chair and another person to pry her mouth open. It was miserable. Anna and Andrew did great. No cavities. Elizabeth, of course, is the only one who has to go back to the dentist for more torture. She has 3 cavities one of which needs a crown. We get to do that this week. I also spent 3 hours this morning at the ER with Elizabeth because she had a 101 fever this morning and even after a breathing treatment she couldn't breathe. I have never seen her look at me with so much panic in her eyes. Her oxygen levels were 88, which isn't that big of a concern at this elevation and her heart rate was insanely fast. I feel so badly for her. The chest x-ray confirmed bacterial pneumonia and now she is taking lots of medicine. The antibiotics they gave her are related to another antibiotic she had an allergic reaction to a few years ago so I am supposed to watch her for "wheezing and shortness of breath," which she already has. Hmm. I am also supposed to watch for a rash, which she already has--though the doctor ruled out scarlet fever. The antibiotics also say to avoid giving to children because it can cause severe stomach pain so the doctor gave me an anti-naseau with codeine. And she is still doing breathing treatments every 4 hours and motrin and tylenol rotated every 6. I had to make a chart of her medicine and timing so I don't end up on the phone with poison control like I did the last time she had pneumonia. So sad.
We also got to go the orthodontist with Andrew this week, who happens to be a friend of Hans. Andrew has a cross bite and as soon as his top molars come in we get to start the whole expensive endeavor. But what do you do? I suppose I signed up for this when I had children.
Yesterday we had two soccer games, a birthday party, and Andrew had his belt test and got to break a real board and get his yellow belt. Very exciting. He is very proud of himself--Grand Master Lee, who coached the Olympic team in 1988 presented him with his belt, and his son, Master Lee teaches Andrew's class. It is very well done and we pay them well for it. We've been searching all week for a piano teacher without much luck. I want cheap lessons so I decided to start teaching him again myself. He has forgotten almost everything and I have shed a few tears over it. He is learning fast but we really did have to start at the beginning.
I am enjoying my calling in Young Women's. I have only taught 1 1/2 lessons so far--I missed today because I was at the hospital. I like going to the activities and I have learned most of their names. Our ward has a lot of youth. I am getting used to more hugging and doing some self-examination on why it makes me uncomfortable. I am impressed by the girls. The hardest part is that a lot of them attend different schools because our ward is split by the school boundary and within school districts you can choose which school you go to. It is kind of crazy and constantly makes you second guess the best choice of school for your kids. I am agonizing over what to do with Andrew and Elizabeth next year.
That was a long post. I haven't really journaled with the whole blog thing like I used to when I just sent update emails and pics. I suppose I would rather be eating, reading, or exercising.
